Vermont is a great place to spend the holidays. Enjoy a fresh, Vermont turkey dinner at Thanksgiving at any one of many cozy Vermont restaurants and inns. Winter farmer’s markets and craft fairs offer a variety of things to see and do. Black Friday comes right on the heels of Thanksgiving and is a great time to explore many small Vermont towns local shops or walk along Burlington’s Church Street, where if you’re lucky and stick around late enough, you can take part in the annual Christmas tree lighting. If the weather God’s are with us, snow will be in the forecast and skiing and snowboarding will thrill people of all ages and skill levels. Maybe even enough snow to enjoy some horse drawn sleigh rides!
Vermont’s After Ski Experience
Vermont is a very special place to live and work. But also an exciting vacation destination just about any time of year. Today is November 7, 2014 and it’s blustery, cold day with snow forecast for the mountains and valleys. Vermonters are hustling about in hopes of getting their snow tires installed, in preparation for an inevitable winter that is on the way, perhaps sooner than most of us anticipate. From all indications, it looks like it will be a great winter for skiing and snowboarding.
Whether you’re on a long term Vermont winter vacation or simply a day visit to one of our many fine Vermont ski resorts, the after ski (or snowboard) hours of relaxation can be equally refreshing and fun. If you’re fortunate enough to be stuck in Vermont during a snowstorm, that is the perfect time to find a warm fireplace and snuggle up with a book and a hot chocolate. The perfect time for Vermont ghost stories and legends. No vacation gets better than this!
Smugglers Notch Community
Smuggler’s Notch is famous for it’s skiing, snowboarding and wonderful family resort. It is also surrounded by small town Vermont charm and scenic beauty. Tucked between Jeffersonville and Stowe, Smuggler’s Notch is located in Cambridge, VT, a small village with farms, small businesses and restaurants. The Boyden Farm is famous for it’s winery and wedding facilities and many seasonal events. The Cambridge Village Market is conveniently located in the middle of town with Angelina’s, a long standing Italian style restaurant, just around the bend.
Further up the road to Jeffersonville, passing the Vermont Maple Outlet on Rte 15, you’ll come to intersection where Rte 108 takes you into the village. Bear right, up the hill towards Smuggler’s Notch which is just 10 or 15 minutes away. In the summer months, Lajoie Stables offers horseback riding. Those who enjoy “disc golf” will enjoy the Brewster Hill 18 Hole Disc Golf Course. The Brewster River Pub and Grill is nearby along with the Cupboard Deli. A typical Vermont covered bridge spans the Brewster River as well. There are also nearby canoe and kayak rentals during the summer months.
